  I have been a renter from Square Management for the last ten years, having lived in two different apartments in the same building. I've never had a problem that was not addressed promptly and completely by the management. My apartment is fantastic. Sure, it's old - the building is from the twenties. But I moved to Highland Square because of its neighborhood and architectural character. Neighborhood character in this case means the vibrancy that comes with a densely populated and youthful area, while architectural character means a brick building, hardwood floors, and plaster and lathe walls. Highland Square is both "right now" and "back then", and Square Management has plenty of places right in the center of the Square.
  
  Having been here all of this time, I've picked up on the two major issues that renters and potential renters have with Square Management. First, potential renters are concerned about the deposit. At first, I thought it was strange to put up a payment for a background check, even though I might not rent a place from Square Management. But, first, Square Management's site is filled with photos of the units, and anyone can drive by the properties to have a better look. Don't pay the fee to see the units with a property manager (and they'll show you as many available units as you want once you pass the background check), if you really aren't that interested in renting any of them.
  
  If you do rent from Square Management, the money paid for the background check is used toward rent. More importantly,THE BACKGROUND CHECK KEEPS THE RIFF-RAFF OUT! I have wonderfully friendly, quiet, employed, productive, and creative neighbors. I wouldn't want to live next to someone who couldn't pass the credit/criminal background check, and I can't see why anyone from Square Management should have to waste time showing an apartment to a deadbeat or felon.
  
  Second, the people who tend to complain that the repairs they're requesting are not being addressed are the same people who have, despite the background check, turned out to be those who don't want to pay their rent. Again, why should Square Management take time from people like me, the ones who work hard and pay their rent on time each month, to fix anything for someone who will soon be evicted for non-payment of rent?
  
  Most of the people in my building stay for more than three years for a reason. Good management makes for a good home as well as good neighbors.
